Among the roaring dead

When Christopher asked me to review his book I was more than happy to. Ever Resident evil I've been a huge fan of the zombie-gerne.

The book is around 300 pages and I cruised through them in about 3 days. The story starts in a normal neighboorhood-setting where two kids get ready to go to bed. There is nothing strange about this was it not for a gigant flash in the distance, followed by earthquakes and heat waves. No point in telling this can't be anything good. After the initial blast, we meet with the children's father who was working below ground. Very soon we find out that he isn't the father of the year (read he is a drunk) but that he cares for his children never the less.

We follow the father as he makes his way over to his children. The reader is with him when he first encounters a zombie and his first loon-a-tic. The story feels familiar after All the zombie movies but it never dulls or get boring. There are some nice ideas like a PAL system (evolved cellphones you can use for everything) and a momy zombie in the back of a van.

On the bad side, I didn't think the characters were evolved enough. They didn't really feel 3D and the reader doesn't really get to know them. It is more like you are a partymember without any input. Like it is somebody you have to travel with but you don't really make an effort to know them because as soon as the journey is over you'll forget about him.

I am giving this book a 3,5 star out of 5. It was nice and easy reading material with some clever inputs here and there but the story stayed to superficial to get a 4.
